How
can I get stuff on uuwetport.org?
Welcome to uuwestport.org!
This site is a community effort made with your support. The information found
here will help you to get your information published on this site. The basic
steps are outlined below and questions/concerns can be addressed to Lynn Moore
via email -
Who can submit to uuwestport.org?
The structure of the site is based on committee input. Each committee may
assign a Content Leader to represent the publishable content for that committee.
The Content Leader is the liaison between the committee and the Web Project
Manager, Lynn Moore. The Web Project Manager then interfaces with the Web Master
and designer.
What are the responsibilities of a Content Leader?
Organize and develop what the committee wants to communicate, the images to
be shared and how site visitors will use that information. She/he will serve
as the primary person to formalize committee content files for hand-off to
the Web Project Manager in a timely fashion. He/she will proof and monitor
the site to be sure the information was posted accurately and that it remains “fresh.” In
other words, when an event/posting is over, an email to the Web Project Manager
to alert her to the fact that it’s time the link is removed.
The Content Leader will also provide (or at least define) the images and graphics
needed and obtain permission(s) to publish copyrighted and personal information.
How can committees publish to our Web site if the content leader
knows nothing about computers?
PAPER METHOD
Handwrite the headings and text you want on a page. Draw images, lines, tables,
or borders. Indicate where you want your attached pictures to go by drawing
squares. Define links.
Your Web master will then create your pages for you, including:
Converting it all into HTML format. Scanning your pictures. Helping you select
clip art and working with the designer.
EMAIL METHOD
You can also provide your text in one of the following electronic formats:
1.) Completely unformatted text is just great (an .rtf file format). The Web
master will take care of formatting.
2.) Use a word processor to define headings and some formatting, such as heading
size. (Don't go too crazy on formatting. Less is more.)
If you use Microsoft Word, save your documents as regular .doc files - DO
NOT SAVE AS HTML.
How to publish files on the Web site:
Content leaders can simply email a file to the Web Project Manager.
Content leaders can submit the committee text documents in either of the following
formats:
1.) Regular email text
2.) Rich Text Format (rtf)
When submitting a text document as regular email text:
Don't include anything else within the email. The only content should be exactly
what is to be published. If a note to the project manager is needed – use
a separate email.
What your Web master won't do:
There are some things, however, that are too time-consuming or highly-skilled
to ask of a volunteer that you might want to hire professionals to help you
with, such as:
Designing custom graphic images
Developing Java applets, Flash, database interfaces, or other custom programming
What are the responsibilities of a Project Manager?
To serve as the Web contact that can answer questions, review files and be
sure content is easy to upload for Web Master. She will be sure permission
to publish copyrighted and personal information has been obtained. She will
also communicate between the committee(s), the designer and the Web Master
on a timely basis; uphold editorial policies; and proof the site.
