Walking Alongside Mita’s Family

Marisol Lorraine Dumeng-“Mita”, July 14, 1991 – May 28, 2022
Paying respect to Mita by acknowledging Femicide and Domestic Violence.
We cannot walk in Mita’s shoes. We cannot feel her fear as her ex-boyfriend repeatedly threatened to kill her or her sense of helplessness as the threats continued following his arrest for threatening and harassment. We cannot feel her anger and disbelief as she called the police only hours before he murdered her, to ask, ‘What are you guys waiting for, for him to come, shoot and kill me?’”* (Read the CT Post article HERE.)
But we can walk alongside Mita’s children: Billy (16), Janiyah (13), Jo’Syah (5), and Armani (4).
Their Grandma asked April Barron, our partner with John Street, to help with their Christmas list. Let’s add cards, too!
Our Ask:
After speaking with their Grandma, April Barron would like to provide the following gifts:
- Billy – 16 -$100 gift card
- Janiyah-13 – $100 gift card
- Jo’Syah-5- Kids Android Tablet ($65)
- Armani-4 – Kids Android Tablet ($65).
Jo’Syah also likes Spider-Man and Armani likes Batman.
If you wish to assist, we are collecting money toward these gifts, and cards for the family. Checks can be made out to The Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport subject line John Street Bridge Outreach, dropped off or sent to the church c/o to Sue O’Meara, or VENMO – @TUCW‐1, The Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport – and designate John Street Holiday Drive -Mita. Spiderman and Batman toys are also welcome.
If you wish to write a card for the family and children, we will include it with the gifts. Please leave these cards in the box labeled “John Street Holiday Drive” in Ruth’s office by Sunday, December 18.
Please contact Teryl Eisenberg at teryleisenberg@att.net or 203-926-1613 (text preferred) if you have any questions.
Thank you for walking with this family and the youth of Bridgeport!
