The Committee Chart is the result of a culmination of a year’s work consulting with Rev. Roberta Finkelstein, David Vita, Dorothy and the Board. The NLDC started with the committee lists in our directory and website. And then invested time reading the constitution and committee charters to ascertain lines of communication and accountability.
This chart is obviously not an organizational structure. The size of the bubbles does not denote the importance of the committee. The key at the bottom right of the chart shows the interpretation of the shape and color of the bubbles. Think of the chart as a mobile. It hangs on our mission, stemming from our membership. You see the extent of volunteerism that we draw in our elected and standing committees. These committees have been distinguished as those with and without board governance. The yellow dangling rectangles are our talented and enterprising groups pursuing their ministry, be it music, social justice, congregational caring or belonging. The chart tries to show the symbiotic relationship between staff and the committees. We started drawing dotted lines showing working relationships. In an organization of our size and type, this got to be very cumbersome. So for the sake of clarity, the dotted lines have been kept to a minimum.
We at NLDC used the chart to showcase the committees during our volunteer fair. We hope this helped our members navigate through the many, many committees more easily. A laminated copy of the chart is on the NLDC board in the foyer at church!
