A Minister’s Message – Our new Interim Music Director! – November 12, 2024

November 12, 2024 by Rev. Alan Taylor - Senior Minister

Dear Members and Friends,

I am thrilled to share that we have an Interim Music Director. Micah Krajca will join us in January, his first service with us will be January 5. Many of you may recognize Micah because he was our guest conductor for the Solstice Concert last June when Rev. Ed had to be away.

This is how Micah introduced himself to our Search Team:

Micah Krajca - Interim Music Director“Music is such a unifying force; it provides the backdrop for our lives, offers comfort, helps us commemorate special occasions, and supports us in navigating grief.

“I am particularly drawn to the Unitarian Universalist ethos, which encourages exploration both spiritually and musically. Your commitment to nurturing a diverse and welcoming community, while celebrating the rich tapestry of musical styles, deeply resonates with both my professional journey and personal values.

“My path in music education and performance has been shaped by a love for choral singing and a dedication to nurturing musical talent in all its forms. Growing up surrounded by various denominations, I learned firsthand the transformative power of music across different spiritual traditions. As a dedicated music educator and choral director, my passion lies in fostering musical excellence and personal growth among singers. Central to my approach is the belief that a vibrant music program should reflect the eclectic tastes and spiritual aspirations of the Congregation.

“I look forward to collaborating with you all to plan diverse musical offerings that inspire and unite our Congregation, fostering a sense of community that extends far beyond rehearsals and Sunday morning services.”

Beginning in January, planning our Music Program overall will be a collaboration between Micah and me along with Nick Barra and Lexi Fonda, our Co-Assistant Directors of Music who will continue to lead the youth and teen music programs, and the Bell Choir. Micah will work directly with the two adult choirs.

To be sure, some of our planning will occur prior to January, so that he is ready to jump in and ensure high quality worship. I am delighted to work with Micah. He brings an energy and thoughtfulness that will surely evolve our Music Program in exciting ways.

During the Interim Search process, you offered many great ideas about what you hope will be emphasized in the Music Program. Keep the ideas coming. Soon, I will form a Search Team for the Permanent Director of Music position. If you have interest in serving on this team or if you have suggestions, let me know. I probably won’t be able to include everyone, but I intend this team will have diverse representation from the Congregation.

Warmly,
Alan
